A Lifelong Commitment to Young People
Dr. Stephanie Hartman is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist who has dedicated her career to helping children, adolescents, adults, and families navigate the challenges of growing up. Since beginning her clinical work in 2006, she has developed a reputation for combining warmth and expertise in a way that helps young people feel truly seen and understood.
After earning her Bachelor's degree in Psychology from Stern College at Yeshiva University in 2002, Dr. Hartman pursued graduate studies at Pace University, where she earned both her Master's in School Psychology (2007) from the Dyson School of Arts and her Doctorate in School and Clinical Psychology (2011). This dual focus gives her a unique perspective on how children's emotional well-being intersects with their academic and social development.
Clinical Experience
Dr. Hartman's clinical training and professional experience span some of the region's most respected institutions. In 2006, she joined Montefiore Medical Center's Child Outpatient Psychiatry Department, providing evidence-based treatments including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), play therapy, and group therapy for children and adolescents ages 7-17. In 2007, she began her internship at the Child Guidance Center of Southern Connecticut, providing therapy and guidance to children ages 3-18 and their families. As a member of the Mobile Crisis team, she worked closely with the Stamford Police Department on urgent and emergent psychological issues.
In 2008, she began working as a school psychologist at Yeshivat Noam in Paramus, NJ, collaborating closely with teachers, administrators, and families to support children's emotional and academic success. Beginning in 2009, she also joined the Center for Applied Psychology (CAPs) at Bikur Cholim in Rockland County, providing community-based therapeutic services to at-risk children and families in their homes and schools. After earning her doctorate in 2011, Dr. Hartman was promoted to Coordinator of School Based Services at CAPs, supervising a team of therapists across 15 local non-public schools.
Dr. Hartman established her private practice in Riverdale, New York in 2012. After 10 years there, she moved her practice to Florham Park, New Jersey, where she serves Essex, Morris, Bergen, and Union counties in person and continues to see her New York clients via Telehealth.
Therapeutic Approach
Dr. Hartman believes that every child has the innate capacity for growth, healing, and change. She uses a variety of evidence-based modalities—including talk therapy, play therapy, CBT, and DBT—tailoring her approach to each child's unique personality, developmental stage, and specific needs. Her office includes a fully equipped playroom designed to help younger children express themselves naturally and comfortably.
She is especially skilled at supporting children and teens navigating divorce, family transitions, anxiety, and the social-emotional challenges of growing up. Her approach focuses on building each child's personal “toolbox” of coping skills and resilience strategies that serve them throughout their lives.
Leadership & Supervision
Alongside her private practice, Dr. Hartman serves as Senior Clinical Director of Achieve Behavioral Health and Director of Crisis Services. She leads a multidisciplinary team, oversees the delivery of crisis care, and provides clinical supervision to early-career clinicians as they work toward licensure.
Mentorship and supervision are a core part of her work. Training the next generation of clinicians allows her to share what two decades of practice have taught her and to help raise the standard of care for children and families in our community.
